IT Department, BCA promotes IT standards used in the industry. The Department coordinates the efforts of the various professional bodies of the industry to draw up users' requirements and standards to enable interoperability in the local construction industry.

To keep Singapore abreast on the IT developments in the world, IT Department, BCA serves as the Secretariat to the Singapore Chapter of the International Alliance For Interoperability (IAI).

IAI is a global council of industry practitioners, building product suppliers, client organisations and software vendors. It is committed to the integration of the building industry through specifying a common set of object specifications, known as Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), to enable software and information interoperability in the Architectural, Engineering, Construction and Facilities Management (A/E/C/FM) industry.

IAI(S) is represented by major construction bodies in Singapore. IAI(S) is admitted into the Construction IT Standards Technical Committee, a member of the Singapore National IT Standards Committee, to endorse and define common standards to be used in the Singapore building industry.
