The REDAS Building Information Modeling (BIM) Symposium 2016 aims to encourage the industry to adopt and implement collaborative BIM to make the quantum leap. The objective is to show how a well-executed BIM involving all value chain partners can maximize profit and minimize cost, resolve conflicts before they happen and improve productivity, quality and safety which will impact the bottom line.Invited local and overseas speakers with actual experience in implementing Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) will talk about successful overseas and local BIM projects, the challenges they faced and how they overcame and reap the benefit by unleashing the power of collaborative BIM.

In recent years, innovative construction technologies including Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) and Mass Engineered Timber Structures such as Glued Laminated Timber (Glulam) and Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) have been adopted in a number of projects. This seminar aims to raise the safety standards of the industry and share good practices as well as shortcomings observed in both the design and construction of building works, in particular in changing the way we build through the use of game-changing technologies.

NTU is one of the pioneers in the adoption of Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) in Singapore. With the successful completion of its first PPVC high-rise development, the Hall of Residence at North Hill, NTU has embarked onto its second PPVC development, the Hall of Residence at Nanyang Crescent. In this workshop, the project team of the Nanyang Crescent development, with representatives from the Project Developer, Architect, Design Engineer and Main Contractor, will share their project experience and learning points throughout the design, manufacturing, transportation and construction stages. In addition, the workshop participants could visit the full mock-up of the modules, and the site to view the hoisting process at the construction site (subject to weather condition).

Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) is a new approach in the construction industry.By bringing more work offsite, manpower and time needed to construct buildings are reduced, while ensuring work sites are safe, conducive and have minimal impact on the surroundingliving environment. This workshop covers the design, manufacturing and planning aspectsof DfMA, with focus on Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC). Sharing ofcase studies on different types of projects which deployed DfMA methodology and the benefitsreaped will help participants better appreciate, and be more confident in the adoption andimplementation of DfMA.

In the Vision Zero movement, one of the key steps in achieving WSH excellence is commitment by leaders. Leaders (senior management) play a crucial role in building up safety and health culture of an organisation. They have greater influence in raising WSH capabilities of their contractors and the workforce. They also have responsibility to send clear signals that they are committed to bring their workers home safe and healthy. This years WSH Conference, jointly organised by BCA Academy and IOSH (Singapore), embraces the theme of WSH Excellence through Leadership in Construction Industry - Driving Towards Vision Zero.
