The BCA-SMU-WDA Advanced Management Programme on Productivity and Leadership Development is a flagship programme tailored for the built environment industry. It aims to provide participants with a broader strategic vision of the business environment at a time when the industry is experiencing growing complexities and increased competitiveness. Drawing on the rich experience of industry leaders, this programme is part of BCAs Built Environment Strategic Leadership Development initiative to develop a quality workforce which would anchor and advance the built environment industry. It also cultivates a platform to exchange ideas and visions among diverse players from the industry. While it facilitates an understanding of the complex market and process-oriented issues that drives the industry, the programme also prepares senior executives to be dynamic leaders; building sustainable competitive advantages of individual firms along the value chain of the built environment industry. To further enhance each module, insights are shared by industry leader firms through industry-specific case-studies. Designed and facilitated by the Singapore Management University (SMU), this programme aims to elevate the way leaders manage performance excellence, business transformation and organisational growth to deliver a quality and sustainable built environment.

The Universal Design Conference is an anchor event for the Singapore Universal Design Week 2016. Themed Universal Design in Public Places, the 1-Day conference aims to accelerate the adoption of UD concepts in the creation of inclusive and user-friendly public places. This requires considerations made on the needs of everyone, including the elderly, expectant mothers, parents with young children, families, and persons with disabilities.A UD Exhibition themed A Journey Through our Inclusive Public Places, will be co-located at the conference. Through life-sized graphics and product displays, the exhibition will feature the inclusive design principles from the new UD Guide for Public Places.
Partial or total collapse of temporary structures such as formwork and falsework is often the cause of such accidents. Some of these accidents had resulted in loss of lives and injuries to many workers. Furthermore, clearing the resulting wreckage was very time-consuming and expensive. It is therefore important for site personnel to acquire the knowledge on the safety requirements of such temporary structures. One of the main causes of the accidents is due to inadequacy of supervision. Such accidents could be prevented if the supervisors had been equipped with knowledge on the proper inspection of the formwork and falsework before, during and after concreting. BCA Academy conducts the Formwork Safety Course For Supervisors to impart fundamental concepts with emphasis on formwork and falsework safety to participants.
Explosive powered tools are commonly used in construction and renovation work to drive fasteners such as studs & pins into work surfaces such as walls & floors. The Ministry Of Manpower (MOM) requires all explosive powered tools operators to be trained. They must successfully complete an appropriate explosive powered tools operator training programme. This explosive powered tools operator course is designed to prepare explosive powered tools operators to meet the MOM's requirement. Construction and renovation workers should attend this course.

The construction of the first large scale building in Singapore which adopted Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and Glued Laminated Timber (Glulam), the NTU Sports Hall, will complete soon. The Sports Hall uses CLT for the finishes and flooring and Glulam for the beams, columns and the long span roof structure. The unique 72 m-long span roof structure provides eight times better thermal insulation than concrete, reducing the building energy consumption by about 40%. While reaping the benefits of improved productivity and sustainability, the project team has also overcame many challenges along the way. The experience which they have gone through would provide good learning points for the industry. In this workshop, representatives from the Project Developer, C&S Engineer, Subcontractor and Timber Suppliers will share their project experience and learning points throughout the design, manufacturing, transportation and construction stages. A time-lapse video illustrating the construction of the 72 m-long span timber roof structure will be shown. Short site visit will also be arranged for the participants to feel and experience for themselves this remarkable project.

The mandatory provision of civil defence (CD) shelters for all new residential developments started in 1998. Owners have the option of providing household shelter within the dwelling unit or storey shelter on each floor. The staircase shelter concept was later introduced to allow for alternative design for architects and designers with more design options in building development with respect to space planning, building configurations and apartment unit design layout. This workshop will provide participants with insights of good CD shelter design and construction practices in compliance with technical requirements. Salient changes and revisions made to the storey shelter technical requirements will also be covered in the workshop.

Smoke control systems are necessary in most buildings to provide the occupants safe evacuation passages in an unlikely but possible fire situation, and to clear the smoke after the fire incident. An effective smoke control system is one which is well-integrated with other fire protection features such as detection systems, compartmentation and evacuation, forming the integral parts of a comprehensive smoke management strategy. This 2-day workshop, jointly offered by BCA Academy and Protective Technology Research Centre (PTRC) of the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), aims to reinforce the concept of smoke management as part of comprehensive fire strategy development and the design strategy of smoke ventilation system. This knowledge will be useful for Fire Safety Engineers, Design Engineer and Architects.
