Underground and related structures are of great significance to the local construction industry. Many structures have to be built below ground and their design and construction are of importance to those in the civil engineering profession.Resident Engineers and Resident Technical Officers need to be familiar with the construction and supervision of underground and associated structures, as such foundations, basements, tunnels and earth-retaining structures.
This course covers topics rarely covered to any great extent at undergraduate level. The emphasis is on hand-based methods. They can be used directly for design or for the checking of computer-based designs. However, rather than just providing an alternate design method of equal difficulty to conventional procedures, it will be found that many problems can be tackled surprisingly easily using these powerful methods. The methods are an aid to understanding. Many worked examples are presented showing how the various methods can be used. The emphasis is on the use of the methods for practical problem solving, so little theory is presented. Appropriate reference will also be made to SS EN 1992 series on Design of Concrete Structures

This particular module will discuss the background of this Court of Appeal case and its direct impact on site supervisors as well as their employers. The course will also provide participants with an up-to-date essential knowledge of Singapores laws on negligence and the common law duty of RTO & RE (as well as engineers and other technical professional s) which are relevant to the engineering building construction (ECB) industries and are faced by or connected with ECB projects.

Graduate Certificate program in Construction Productivity Enhancement is open to any Bachelor degree holders, in particular B.Eng. (Civil Engineering) degree and B.Eng. (Environmental Engineering with minor in Civil Infrastructure), or equivalent. It aims at providing knowledge and competitive edge in productivity enhancement as well as in virtual design and construction. Further value-added skills in evaluating economics feasibility and risks in projects will also become an essential part of the programme.

This course aims to highlight the key environmental concerns relating to air and water pollution from construction sites. The scope of the course will cover sources and activities on worksites that generate pollution, as well as the impact of this pollution on our environment. Regulations, management and control measures to address these pollution concerns will also be discussed.

he success of a development project depends largely on the effectiveness of the project manager and the-project team members who are involved in the project. Being a key member of the project team, it is important for the engineer to acquire the knowledge and skills of project management, so that they will be able to work closely with the project manager and contribute positively to the success of the projects. To achieve good quality construction works, it is important for the engineer to be able to manage the design process and supervise the construction work on site effectively. This course will also cover the effective management of design process by the engineers and effective supervision of construction works by the engineers and RTOs.This course will also cover the risk assessment and safety management of construction works, to provide a safe environment for all personnel working on site.In addition, this course will also touch on the skill sets required for managing projects overseas, particularly in China.
