MRT tender preparation and submission need to be carefully and effectively managed to avoid exposing organisation to severe financial penalties and turning a potentially profitable project into a loss-maker. In order to be profitable, a sound tender is vital and risk factors must be eliminated where possible.Thus, a specially tailored 1 day course is launched to educate and equip construction industry stakeholders a good real insight into a contractors experience in tendering for MRT projects and other infrastructure projects.
The management of project is a complex issue and can be potentially ruinous financially for both the contractor and employer if the risk and uncertainty are not managed efficiently and effectively. This workshop will concentrate on good programme management and optimisation strategies and techniques for effectively managing and mitigating the risk and challenges in managing a project towards successful completion. It will also cover tools for avoiding and analysing issues in disputes, and for resolving disputes quickly with minimum cost.A case study will be used to help participants gain a better understanding of the potential problems and risks arising due to project delays. The case study will conclude with illustrations of how best practice programme management techniques and optimisation strategies can be effectively applied to help in the recovery of the delayed project.

Chaired by BCA, the Inter-Agency Coordinating Committee (IACC) comprises representatives from various building regulatory agencies (EMA, LTA, NEA, NParks, PUB, SCDF, URA), public sector developers (HDB, JTC) and industry associations (ACES, IES, REDAS, SCAL, SIA). The IACC primarily facilitates project teams to quickly resolve issues arising from conflicting regulatory requirements that may impede construction activities and reduce productivity.

The BCA Design and Engineering Safety Excellence Award was launched in May 2008 to give recognition to the Qualified Person for Structural Works [QP(ST)], QP(ST)s firm and the project team for ingenious design processes and solutions in overcoming project challenges to ensure safety in design, construction and maintenance of building and civil engineering projects locally and overseas.

Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) is a technology that fundamentally changes the way we build. In this workshop, the project team of the Wisteria development, with representatives from the Architect, Main Contractor and PPVC specialist will share their project experience and learning points throughout the design, manufacturing and construction stages. In addition, participants could would be able to visit the project site to view the hoisting process and various PPVC modules (*subject to weather conditions).
With the adoption of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) gaining momentum in Singapore, there is a growing interest in DfMA regionally. This workshop is organised at this year Singapore Construction Productivity Week (SCPW) and aims to provide participants with a better understanding on the current state of development of DfMA in the region, as well its outlook moving forward.
The Build Smart Conference provides a platform for practitioners from different disciplines to gain insights of overseas and local advancement towards construction productivity, its technologies, processes and concepts, business case, as well as exemplary projects. Launched in 2011, the 2-day Build Smart Conference has been a key event of the annual Singapore Construction Productivity Week (SCPW), which is an industry-wide campaign to raise awareness in enhancing construction productivity.

The Internal Audit (QEHS) course (based on requirements on Quality Management System, Environmental Management System and Occupational Health and Safety Management System) aims to equip Internal Auditors with the knowledge and skill required to assess, monitor and measure the performance of an organisations integrated QEHS Management system. As the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 have recently undergone a major review, the course includes the latest updates of the new editions and highlights the necessary revisions to ensure smooth transition from the current version.

Property and facilities management is a growing industry in Singapore. With the ever-increasing number of residential developments in Singapore, the demand for more professionally trained property and facilities management personnel is growing in tandem. To meet the high expectations of home owners and residents, building management personnel need to be well equipped with the knowledge of the governing laws and related procedures for the management of estates. In addition, it is also important for them to acquire good interpersonal communication and people management skills to manage difficult and demanding clients in a positive way.The course covers the essential procedures and laws related to estate management under the Building Maintenance & Strata Management Act (BMSMA). It also provides an awareness and understanding of the crucial people management skills necessary for building management personnel.
Managing people, in general, can be frustrating and demanding on ones time and can result in increased stress levels, especially when we are so consumed in our daily work processes. Very often, project managers, site supervisors, facility managers and building executives are hassled by their site agents, subcontractors, material suppliers and building tenants over all kinds of issues and problems relating to inadequate site facilities, slow work progress, poor building maintenance, high rental fees, etc. Normally, people who lack effective management and interpersonal skills would only exacerbate such situations. Furthermore, the stress of handling difficult people and challenging situations can result in low productivity, low morale and high absenteeism within the team or an organisation. The 2-day experiential workshop aims to teach participants practical solutions to effectively manage people by considering (1) what makes people difficult (2) how we could communicate effectively and manage peoples expectations, and (3) strategies for dealing with difficult people and situations.Through interactive activities, role play and case studies participants learn how to apply the provided tools coupled with their interpersonal skills to deal with all types of work behaviour problems. Towards the end of the workshop, you should be able to develop a personal action plan that helps you manage your team more effectively.
